Thursday the 26th September
Sunshine Coast Hinterlands
Ride Leader: Dave Nolan/Peter Palis
Departs from: Rotunda at the Gold Mining Museum, Monkland.
A ride for Adventure styled bikes. We will not be traveling at breakneck speeds, its about enjoying the environments and the great outdoors.
1. Out of Gympie along Eel Crk Rd. to Langshaw. Heathcote Road to Amamoor Crk then forestry road to Kandanga Crk, similar to Yabba Crk Rd, then Derrier Road and forestry road coming out about 3kms from Kenilworth. Hardly any bitumen apart from first 20kms. Leg roughly 80kms all up, maybe an hour and a half. Good timing for coffee in Kenilworth?
2. Leaving Kenilworth there's a few kms of gravel, then up the Obi-Obi to Mapleton, back on the gravel Mapleton forest to Belli, then across to Black Mountain, down to Federal and close to Pomona. Leg about 100kms roughly 50/50 tar/gravel. Duck into Pomona for lunch?
3. From Pomona through the forestry and then through Cooran, then Old Noosa Rd. back to Gympie, maybe half gravel.
#...bridge on Old Noosa Rd currently closed for replacement, shouldn't be too much longer but if still closed I know a good alternative route.
#...all pretty straightforward, nothing tricky.
# Total (roughly) 200ks, about 60% gravel.
